SchoolNet Namibia was a local hands-on ICT deployment, training and support organization, established in February 2000 to empower youth through the Internet and provide sustainable low-cost technology solution for Internet to all Namibian schools.

SchoolNet Namibia was officially dissolved by its Trustees and membership at a general meeting.on 17 July 2009.

In the interest of keeping an historical record of SchoolNet's (significant!) contributions to Namibia's ICT and Education sectors, the Trustees of SchoolNet agreed to keep SchoolNet web-site (and domain) alive for at least two years following the official closure in 2009. Thereafter, the plan is to redirect the contents of SchoolNet Namibia to WikiEducator or another appropriate hosting service.

It remains a grim reality that some 806 schools, 50% of Namibia's schools, try to function without electricity and telecommunications.

It was therefore particularly ironic that SchoolNet's dissolution came a day after Namibia's Communications Bill, so long in the making, was finally tabled in Parliament.
